Greater efficiency and optimised equipment management: the Geiger Group relies on telematics from Rosenberger Telematics

With around 3,600 employees at approximately 100 locations across Germany and Europe, the group operates in the infrastructure, real estate and environmental sectors. To further optimise the operation of its extensive machine fleet and increase efficiency, Geiger Technik und Service GmbH & Co. KG chose a comprehensive telematics solution from Rosenberger Telematics, implemented in cooperation with A1 Digital.

The challenge: complexity in machine fleet management

Within the Geiger Group, Geiger Technik und Service GmbH & Co. KG is responsible for managing a diverse fleet comprising hundreds of large and small machines, from crawler excavators and wheel loaders to specialised attachments. The machines are in daily use on a wide variety of construction sites and frequently change location. This demands a high degree of transparency, precise planning and efficient administration.

The previous manual documentation processes had reached their limits. Information on operating hours, idle times, fuel consumption or maintenance status could only be obtained with considerable effort. This posed a risk to the profitability, security and availability of the valuable equipment. Geiger Technik und Service GmbH & Co. KG recognised early on the need for a digital, centralised and future-proof solution to increase transparency and efficiency and to professionalise its processes.

The solution: integrated equipment management with Rosenberger Telematics

Geiger Technik und Service GmbH & Co. KG was looking for a digital telematics solution enabling GPS tracking, the digitalisation of paper-based processes, targeted investment and maintenance decisions, protection against loss and theft, sustainable resource management and the optimisation of fuel consumption.

In May 2023 the company found what it was looking for at A1 Digital, which, in cooperation with Rosenberger Telematics, offers a manufacturer-independent end-to-end telematics solution for the equipment management of vehicles, construction machines and assets. Rosenberger Telematics provides the core technology in the form of hardware and software that enables precise localisation and data acquisition.

Implementation and how it works

The equipment management solution from Rosenberger Telematics uses GPS trackers and beacons for localisation and data acquisition. Three years after the first discussions, as of May 2026 around 250 construction machines and approx. 200 light commercial vehicles are equipped with GPS trackers. In addition, roughly 200 attachments such as buckets or hydraulic breakers have been fitted with beacons, which have their own power supply and make even the smallest accessories visible in the central register. The solution also enables the integration of factory-fitted telematics modules of modern machines via standard interfaces (AEMP).

The implementation of the equipment management solution from Rosenberger Telematics has already delivered measurable results for Geiger Technik und Service GmbH & Co. KG:

• Optimised dispatching and utilisation: GPS trackers enable location and deployment monitoring of larger machines, which simplifies dispatching and optimises machine utilisation.
• Efficient asset tracking: Beacons ensure that attachments and small equipment can be found quickly at any time and are included in the central register.
• Improved protection against loss and theft: The traceability of the last known location increases protection against loss and theft.
• Digital documentation: Vehicle handovers are logged digitally and in an audit-proof manner, improving efficiency, transparency and traceability.
• Data-based decisions: Machine and movement data are consolidated and analysed in a BI tool. This provides a sound basis for investment decisions, the optimisation of machine deployment and the evaluation of replacement or sale options.
• Predictive maintenance management: The system acts as a digital vehicle file and enables predictive planning of maintenance needs, such as targeted notifications for the optimal timing of a gearbox oil change. This minimises downtime and reduces maintenance costs.
• Usage optimisation and fuel efficiency: Analyses of standstill and idle times as well as utilisation enable targeted optimisation of equipment deployment, reduce unnecessary downtime and help lower fuel consumption.
• Decentralised use: The scalability and configurability of the solution allow the various business units of the Geiger Gruppe to use it independently and run their own analyses.

These results lead to significantly leaner internal processes, more efficient use of the machine fleet and a noticeable reduction in administrative effort. The Geiger Group now has a reliable, data-based foundation for strategic decisions, strengthening the operational efficiency and future-readiness of its fleet.

Outlook: continuous development

The integration of the telematics solution is being expanded continuously. The current focus is on company-wide availability and on completing the machine master data, especially for older machines and attachments. In future, the commercial vehicle fleet is to be integrated more closely into the digital solution. In addition, the precise position data of all machines and attachments will be integrated directly into the new transport management system (TMS) of Geiger Logistik GmbH & Co. KG to ensure even more efficient transport handling.
